The General Officer Handbook doesn’t provide much guidance on what can/should be embroidered on a GO jacket. All it says is:
— GO jacket with name (most use “go-by” and last name) and badges embroidered on left side,
rank embroidered on epaulets (or pin-on rank without name or badges embroidered)
—- GO jacket authorized for wear with all AF blue shirts and may be worn over pull over or
cardigan sweater (sweater must not be exposed)
—- Pin-on rank insignia, if worn, will be 1-inch metal, displayed point-to-center and not
connected by a bar; do not wear metal rank in combination with embroidery
—- Embroidery style (script or block) is left up to the individual; may be white or light gray
—- Each 1- inch (3/4 – inch if unable to wear 1 – inch) star should be embroidered using
120/2 denier or 40 weight yarn and have a minimum of 822 multihead stitches
Therefore, I provide three size options as well as several font choices for your name. After you submit your requirements I’ll send you a digital draft with your wings/badges and name in three sizes and multiple fonts. You can pick any of these of if you don’t like any of them let me know what you’d prefer and I’ll work something up for you. It’s your jacket so make sure it’s what you want. I’ll tell you though that at one point or another all size/font combinations have been used but by a large margin the favorite is the middle size with the top cursive font you’ll receive in your digital draft image. Your cost is $25 for the embroidery of the stars/wings/badges/name. I’ve been told by many I could charge more for this service but after serving in the USAF for 26+ years this is just a small way of paying it back. Shipping is via FedEx 2-day shipping is $20. If you are looking to have your epaulets replaced you have two options:
— You can send me your jacket and I’ll take care of everything. The embroidery charge is $15 (includes adding snaps to the epaulet) but I have a seamstress R&R the epaulets so I need to add an additional $20 to your fee so your total with shipping (FedEx 2-day) is $55.
— If you have a seamstress you trust I can simply embroider your epaulets and mail those to you and you can have your local seamstress R&R the epaulets. The embroidery cost and adding snaps is $15 and shipping is $5.00. I have some spare epaulets that I can embroider and get out the next day. If you want me to use my spare epaulets you’ll need to have your free replacment epaulets sent to me…send an email request to: afphlgorequests@dla.mil
